Size

There is a lot to think about when choosing the right mattress for your baby. You'll need to take into consideration size, safety, price and design to make the right choice. Be sure to check the dimensions of the cot prior to you buy. The most popular dimensions are 140cm by 70cm. However, these can vary from one brand to the next. You should also be aware of the age group that a cot is suitable for. You may have to upgrade to an infant bed or a single bed when your child is ready or perhaps earlier.

A cot-bed can be a flexible option because it can be converted into a toddler bed or small single bed once your baby is old enough. This makes the transition easier for both you and your child and will save you money in the long time.

Cot beds are available in many different dimensions, shapes, and finishes. It is important to select the right one for your nursery. Choose a cot that is suitable for the space. Also, keep in mind that most cots have removable sides that allow your baby to play with toys or to sit in the bed. If your nursery is small in space, consider a compact cot that has curved edges.

Contact family members and friends who have children if you're uncertain of the ideal model for your nursery. They'll be able to provide valuable insights into their own experiences with various models, and offer suggestions based on their personal experience. You can also review online reviews to gain an understanding of how other parents have found the cot bed they've bought.

Cot beds are available in a variety of materials including pine, which is the most popular. This is a soft wood which means it is more susceptible to scratches and dents but it's also a highly renewable material and incredibly sturdy. Birch, oak, and beech are also hard woods with greater resistance to wear. Some cots are also constructed from engineered wood which combines a layer plywood or MDF with a veneer of wood in order to create an even more durable finish.

Safety

Cots and cots must comply with new standards for safety and health to ensure that babies sleep in a safe environment. These include ensuring that they don't have sharp edges and that the distance between the bars is no more than 6.5cm. This will stop infants from climbing up or getting trapped between the bars. They should not also use them as ladders. When buying a second-hand cot, or an heirloom, make sure it has been properly cleaned and is up to date with safety standards. Older cots might have been painted with leaded paint, which is a hazard to young children.

A good quality cot must be simple to put together, and comes with clear instructions. It must also require a minimum of tools. If you are not able to build it yourself, ask your friends or family members for suggestions and take time to go over any safety guidelines thoroughly. You should also make sure that you have a solid mattress for your cot that is well-fitted with no gaps and that it is not too deep. It is recommended to stay clear of pillows, cot bumpers or any other bedding that is soft, as these can cause fatal death from suffocation.

Some cots can be turned into toddler beds. This will help you save money and make the transition from cot to bed as smooth as possible. Some are multifunctional, with additional features such as teething rails, storage drawers, and even a crib.
